National Skin Cancer Action Week
Approximately two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer during their lifetime. Tragically, around 2,000 Australians are expected to die from this disease this year, with nearly twice as many men as women succumbing to melanoma.
Despite these alarming statistics, research indicates that many Australians, particularly men, are not consistently using all five recommended forms of sun protection. This year, Cancer Council Australia is urging everyone, especially men over 40, to adopt SunSmart habits to reduce their risk of developing skin cancer.
During National Skin Cancer Action Week and throughout the summer, always remember to:
• Slip on sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible
• Slop on SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
• Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
• Seek shade
• Slide on sunglasses
