Recall System

To assist patients, especially those at risk, we run a reminder system for preventative health issues. Please inform staff if you do not wish to be involved in the recall program. It is essential to make an appointment when you receive a reminder letter or text message.

Repeat Prescriptions

In the interest of better health monitoring, repeat prescriptions will generally not be issued without a doctors consultation.

Appointments

Our walk-in appointments are determined by our GP availability on the particular day.
We strongly encourage that appointments be made in advance as there may be times when our GPs have reached the maximum patient amount allowed by Medicare per day.

To make an appointment telephone the surgery or book online. Please indicate preferred time and doctor you wish to see. If you require a longer consultation please inform the receptionist at the time of the booking. Should you be unable to keep your appointment, please contact the surgery at least two hours prior to the allocated time to cancel your appointment as from the 1st July 2022, a $55 non-attendance fee will be applied to your account.

Please notify reception staff upon your arrival. If you are experiencing any of the following please notify reception immediately:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sudden onset of visual disturbance
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Flu like symptoms
  • Contagious illness (requiring a mask)
  • Rash

Any medical emergencies will always be attended to promptly. Emergency calls will always be accepted immediately by the doctors.

The doctor will return all other calls between consultations or at their earliest convenience. Our reception staff are experienced in assisting you with your inquiry.

Walk-ins will be seen by the doctor at the next available time, however appointments will always have priority.

Home Visits

Virginia Medical Centre provides home visits to residents in The Palms Residential Village and The Virginia Gardens Caravan Park, please contact the centre to enquire about an appointment. Other home visits are made at the discretion of the doctor and are restricted to our regular patients who may be seriously ill or those whose mobility is impaired.

Test Results

To maintain a strict code of confidentiality, patients are advised to make an appointment with their doctor to have their results discussed.  We will not give any results over the phone or via email.

Referral Letters

When seeing your specialist, please ensure your referral letter is current. Patients must book an appointment with their doctor to obtain a referral letter to a specialist.

Fees (From 1st July 2024)

Virginia Medical Centre is committed to providing our patients with the best quality medical care in an environment that is warm, caring, safe, professional and respectful.

The fees charged by our practice reflect the cost of running an efficient practice that complies with the best medical practice, the requirements of various government agencies, and the standards imposed by Accreditation.

Fees and billing arrangements

All appointments, whether Telehealth, face to face, or for treatment will incur a fee unless stated below;

For all appointments if your bank details are logged with Medicare, the rebate will be paid into your account.

 

  • Child Immunisations, Health Assessments, Care Plans including Mental Health and GP will be bulk-billed.
  • Children up to the age of 16 will be bulk-billed Monday – Friday ONLY.
  • If you have a current pension, health care card or hold a DVA Gold card you will be bulk-billed for MOST services Monday – Friday ONLY.

Procedures: Any procedure such as Iron infusions, skin excisions, Mirena insertion, Implanon insertion/removal will incur an additional out of pocket fee to cover consumables. Please speak to our doctors or receptionists to provide an accurate estimate of costs.

New-born Checks: If you are attending with your newborn baby, please apply early for your new Medicare card. Consultations attended without a valid Medicare card will incur the full consultation fee. We ask that this fee is paid on the day of consultation. You may then claim your rebate via Medicare once you have your valid Medicare card.

WC/VA: Payment of accounts is due on the day of consult for any new WorkCover or Vehicle Accident patients. You will be liable to pay WC/VA accounts in full until such time as a claim number and WC/VA acceptance has been received from insurance company. This information must be given to reception staff to allow future accounts to be sent direct to insurance company.

Other: Any pre-employment medicals, completion of paperwork or reports, heavy vehicle license or superannuation forms are not covered under Medicare and will need to be paid in full by the patient on the day of appointment.

Fees are payable in FULL at the time of consultation.
Another appointment cannot be offered until the consultation has been paid.
We accept most credit cards and have EFTPOS facilities.

Other Facilities

Disabled access and onsite parking is available to assist in transport. There are facilities for baby nappy changing and feeding should this be required.

Australian Clinical Labs

We have on site Pathology services, appointments are not needed unless you are having a special test like a GTT or a Breath test or Holter monitor or Blood pressure tests(Please note fees may apply for some services). You must ring on (08)8366 2000 to book and the test will be performed here at Virginia Medical Centre.

Our Commitment

We are committed to your care, respect your rights and needs and provide a safe and efficient environment delivering the highest level of care.

After Hours Care

Should you require medical assistance outside our usual hours, care is provided by an approved locum service, call National Home Doctor Service on 13 74 25 (13SICK).

In the case of an emergency and because of distances served by this outer metropolitan practice, you may be wise to call an ambulance or head straight to Gawler or Lyell McEwen Hospitals.

Privacy Policy

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain the security of personal health Information. Please feel free to request a detailed copy of the National Privacy Policy.
Virginia Medical Centre uses a data base where all our patients records are stored.

Since their inception in 1994 the death rate has improved by 40%, with an average of 20,000 Australian’s diagnosed each year.
Early detection is a key part in the survival rate, make sure to keep up with your breast examinations.

Virginia Medical Centre offer Health heart checks, if you are over 45 years of age or of Aboriginal or Torres Strait islander descent and over 30 years of age you are eligible for a Health Heart Check. These heart checks aim to provide a better understanding of your chances of having a heart attack or stroke and what steps you can take to lower your risk of heart disease.
